Was This the Best Job Ever?

For a few months in college, I had maybe the best part-time job.

I had a work-study job with Penn Athletic Communications (basically PR).

In the fall, working football games was okay. I don’t remember much about it, other than running stat sheets through press row and up to the coaches’ box, and then listening in on the post-game press conference.

The fun part was basketball season. Because my job was to sit at halfcourt, eat chicken tenders and pizza, and answer the phone when ESPN called asking what the score was. (I still passed out the stat sheets and stayed for the press conference.)

Especially at a school where I wanted to go to the sporting events but students didn’t really go, getting paid to have the best seat in the house with free food was about as good as it got.
