LGC5

I love a good loophole. I read through a Reddit post where people listed some of their favorite loopholes they found, and the first thing that came to mind was one I found in college.

Well, the second thing. The first thing was that some guys in my fraternity kept getting $15 free from Insomnia Cookies, getting almost a year of free cookies before being banned.

Here’s the story of the second thing.

Sophomore year, I move into an off-campus house with some friends. I receive a direct mail ad from Papa John’s offering $5 large cheese pizzas (I can’t remember but there was one or two free toppings as well) if you carried out. The offer expired in about 10 days from when I received it. The promo code was “LGC5”.

Papa John’s wasn’t as good as the local pizza places, but the latter charged $2.50 a slice. If you were really hungry, $5 for a large pizza was a really good deal.

So I used the deal twice during the promo period. But the next time after the promo period ended I ordered from them, I tried the coupon code again…and it worked.

Fast forward, I used that promo code for the last three years of college. It became a good bit, too, among my friends. LGC5 became a verb. “Do you want to leave the bar and LGC5?”

I told this story to my dad about five years later. I wondered if the code was still active by some chance. He very confidently said if they hadn’t turned it off then, it would still be on now. And sure enough, it was.
